I absolutely love my archive. All of these are fairly recent inspirations but they definitely have a huge influence on me. Not necessarily in the content themselves but in the way these creators go about their work. Videos accompanied by music are especially intriguing because figuring out how to direct a video for music or compose a soundtrack for a film requires an immense amount of creativity. My archive consists of artists who use their own style to their full advantage and are not worried about what others think about their work. This is quite meaningful to me because learning to focus on myself and worry less about others opinions has allowed me to develop my own artistic style. The Photographers I have included have the same values, especially JR. I think our section on JRs portrait project has made the biggest impact on me throughout this class. He made some points when talking about his projects that will help me on my journey. Those points being, it is ok to break rules especially when you get close to those you are working with. JRs ability to create relationships with people he has just met in communities that tend to steer away from people like him is incredible. Going forward with my own work, when focusing on subjects in a specific field, I will definitely try to form a relationship with them as it shows in the product. It is really easy to tell when a subject is comfortable and enjoying the process as well. The last few people I would like to touch on are individuals who are not “photographers” but people living life and capturing it. Instagrams such as henrythecoloradodog and gopherdirt are just two people who capture what they see that makes them happy. When it comes down to it, that is all I want. I want to enjoy what I do, capture the things that make me happy.
